Kickers are important in football. Lets not kid ourselves.
Although, for the most part, they don't do anything at practice (besides get balls that have been thrown out of bounds)... they might have the hardest job come game day. Why you ask? Because every other position your allowed to make mistakes, your a reciever and you miss a catch? It's okay, your not going to be taken out. Your a QB and you throw a pick? Forget about it, learn from it, and move on. But if your a kicker? Your screwed.
Think about that. You don't have to do anything all week, well hitting and contact wise. Then the game comes down to you on the weekend. That doesn't seem fair does it? I agree...
Just look at the Saint's Garrett Hartley for example. He is the reason why the Saints beat the Vikings in the NFC Championship last year, then after one missed FG (granted it was to win a game) he is YANKED. Sorry kickers, for your job security I hope you make your kicks.
