DI-PLOMA and What Got Me Here

Today. I received my diploma... I am officially a graduate of the S.I. Newhouse School of Public Communications.

That's right... this means one thing to me. I'm old. Yep. I have my Master's degree, in hand, and in order to have that I must be old. That's all I can think of, so in honor of my old age, I want to go through the top 3 greatest sports team of my lifetime. Okay, maybe greatest isn't the word, but you know.

1. Terrell Davis and his Denver Broncos.

Terrell Davis. YOU are my idol. YOU are the reason why in 4th grade I made my Mother buy me my first pair of Nike's. (Yes, in case you were wondering, those player endorsements do work sometimes.) YOU are the reason why I got eternally embarrassed in 4th grade when I spelled losers 'loosers' as I scrawled that across the board where people in my school picked a favorite for the Superbowl. Terrell Davis and his Denver Broncos beat the Green Bay Packers. And I was SO happy Terrell Davis won, that I wrote 'loosers' all over the Packers side of the board. And got made fun of, for years. But Terrell, it was worth it.

2. The Purple People Eaters

You heard right. This was my soccer team the first year I played. And when I say that this team changed my life, I am not kidding. This team, let me in on the idea that sports are often a mans world. And I was only 5. Imagine this: a 5 year old version of me, on a soccer team with ONLY boys. Somehow adding a tiny 5 year old girl made the team co-ed, but the catch was, I had to play. I quickly learned that males do not like to be told what to do by girls, and that sports are 'their thing' not a girls. This quickly changed with the next few years, because I got better then the boys. And recruited several more girls who were just as tough as I was. By the way, the best feeling was scoring on a boy--helllllooo embarrassing.

3. The Supa-Bowl Champion New Orleans Saints 2010

This team took my breath away. I am a Saint's fan, and If you asked me before last season, I would have admitted that I never thought they would make it to a Superbowl. But, alas, in the NFC Championship game, I knew. I knew that it was inevitable... When Garrett Hartley kicked the FG in overtime-- it was destiny. In the midst of my tears, I knew that it was Destiny. (Yes, I am a girl.. I get emotional when teams I like do well, really well.) You cant stop a train, thats what they say... to that I say, You cant stop Drew Brees.

I was going to do 5 teams, but I am currently distracted by the Law and Order SVU that is TV. I think that those three are enought to celebrate my diploma though. And to confirm that I am O-L-D. Stay tuned in ladies and gents, there will be more.
